Wake Stone Company Awards

2000 Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and Wake County Education Partnership presented Wake Stone Corporation with the Business Partner for Education Award for demonstrating an exceptional commitment of leadership, volunteers, and other resources to strengthening public education in Wake County.

2000 The North Carolina Landscape Association presented Wake Stone Corporation with the Environmental Improvement Grand Award for the Company's efforts to minimize the environmental impact of the 1999 stream location project at the Knightdale Quarry.

1999 and 1998 The National Stone Association in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency presented Wake Stone Corporation's Triangle Quarry with a Gold Environmental Eagle Award for Excellence in Environmental Achievement. This award is given to applicants who demonstrate superior performance in the following criteria categories:
    -The quality and effectiveness of the operation's proactive environmental programs.
    - The degree of employee involvement in environmental programs.
    - The quality and effectiveness of an operation's pollution prevention and waste minimization          programs.
    - The extent to which an operation has implemented effective environmental control measures           for dust suppression, storm water run off, discharge water treatment, and waste
       management.
    - The extent to which the operations environmental control measures produce measurable             results better than regulatory requirements.

1999, 1992, and 1988 The Knightdale Fire Department and Rescue Squad presented to Wake Stone Corporation on three occasions a Certificate of Appreciation for their donations. In 1988 a heavy duty pick up truck was donated to the Fire Department for the purpose of fighting brush fires. In 1992 the recognition was for financial support. In 1999 a four door S- IO blazer was donated for the purpose of assisting the Fire Department in responding to calls. In 2000 plans are underway for the donation of a Chevrolet Suburban to the Rescue Squad.

1998 "Business North Carolina" Magazine and the Family Business Forum at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business presented Wake Stone Corporation the North Carolina Family Business of the Year Award for Medium Size Companies.

1998 The National Stone Association in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency presented Wake Stone Corporation's Knightdale, Moncure and Nash County Quarries with Silver Environmental Eagle Awards for Outstanding Environmental Achievement. This award is given to applicants who demonstrate substantial performance in the following criteria categories:

- The quality and effectiveness of the operation's proactive environmental programs.
- The degree of employee involvement in environmental programs.

1997 The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce presented Wake Stone Corporation the Business of the Year Award for medium sized companies.

1997 The North Carolina Wildlife Federation presented Wake Stone Corporation the Governor's Award for Land Conservationist of the Year for exceptional land management projects that provide habitat for wildlife, improved outdoor recreation and aesthetics, education opportunities for schools, and increased environmental awareness for company employees.

1997 The Town of Knightdale presented Wake Stone Corporation the Town's first Appearance Award. The award is for excellence in community appearance and stewardship of the land, community involvement in improving the character and appearance of Knightdale, and preservation of existing natural features and history.

1995 The Federal Highway Administration's National Quality Initiative Award was presented to Wake Stone Corporation for its participation in the construction of the quality award winning Interstate 440 project in Raleigh, NC.

1994 The National Stone Association presented Wake Stone Corporation's Knightdale Quarry with its second Showplace Award. The Showplace designation is awarded to quarry operations that demonstrate superior performance in 12 areas of criteria; Entrance and Approach, Office and Scale House, Employee Areas, Other Structures, Screening (appearance from neighbors), Plant Appearance, Dust Control, Erosion Control, Mining Area Appearance, Trash and Scrap Control, Settling Pond and Reclamation, and Trucks.

1994 & 1988 The Knightdale Chamber of Commerce presented Wake Stone Corporation on two occasions the Business of the Year Award.

1994 The Town of Knightdale presented Wake Stone Corporation with Certificate of Recognition for the contribution of land for a Park and continued service to the benefit of the citizens of Knightdale, North Carolina.

1992 The National Stone Association presented Wake Stone Corporation's Nash County Quarry with a Showplace Award. The Showplace designation is awarded to quarry operations that demonstrate superior performance in 12 areas of criteria; Entrance and Approach, Office and Scale House, Employee Areas, Other Structures, Screening (appearance from neighbors), Plant Appearance, Dust Control, Erosion Control, Mining Area Appearance, Trash and Scrap Control, Settling Pond and Reclamation, and Trucks.

1989 The National Stone Association presented Wake Stone Corporation's Moncure Quarry with an Outstanding Achievement Award. The Outstanding Achievement designation is awarded to quarry operations that demonstrate progress in 0 12 areas of criteria; Entrance and Approach, Office and Scale House, Employee Areas, Other Structures, Screening (appearance from neighbors), Plant Appearance, Dust Control, Erosion Control, Mining Area Appearance, Trash and Scrap Control, Settling Pond and Reclamation, and Trucks.

1987 North Carolina Mining Commission and the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development's Division of Land Resources Land Quality Section presented Wake Stone Corporation's Triangle Quarry a Certificate of Recognition for efforts made in reclamation and beautification of mined lands in North Carolina.

1985 The Wake County, NC Soil and Water Conservation District presented Wake Stone Corporation with the Urban Conservation Award for efforts made to prevent sedimentation and control erosion at our Triangle Quarry in Wake County, NC.
